Time was I'd be out a couple nights a week at rave and club nights. I'm a lot older than that and definitely don't have the stamina, but I still like to get to events when I can. Last night I went to the Vibe Tribe party in Sydenham and what a fun time!

Wild punk band

Vibe Tribe for a time were the organisers of really amazing raves in and around Sydney including some really audacious occupations of disused industrial sites: the Pyrmont sugar mill was a particular highlight. The music was richly varied, bringing together the threads of the mainstream rave scene alongside the crustier end of protest politics. A lot of people heard the then-new Psy Trance genre for the first time at Vibe Tribe parties.

Bass Bitch

Ming D

So it was great fun to catch up with a bunch of old friends and dance the night away with some blinding sets. They managed to get Bass Bitch out for a stellar acid-heavy set followed by Ming D who dropped some blinding techno before moving into jackin' house and some wub-wuby dubstep, finishing with a killer track from Nicki Nair. Amazing.

Grungy industrial artefacts

The setting was a grungy industrial workshop, apparently the people who make the crazy vehicles for the Mad Max movies. So lots of chopped up industrial stuff hanging around. Giving a great vibe.

Now it makes me think I should do more raves, if I can summon the energy. Always a fun experience when you hit your daily step goal before 1:30am.
